Industry Overview

CVCheck’s Qld/NSW Business Development Manager, Luke Cunningham tells us about his new endeavours.

Luke Cunningham - CVCheckLuke Cunningham spent nearly a decade working in recruitment and forged an enviable career as a young professional recruiting across Queensland. I was lucky to work with him a few times over my career and really enjoyed our teamwork. Luke is a complete professional but knows how to have a laugh. He is a passionate young man which is evident not only in his work ethic, but also in his great love of cycling. In late 2013, Luke decided he was looking for a new challenge and accepted a role as Qld/NSW Business Development Manager for a company called CVCheck.

Luke can you tell us about CVCheck?

Thanks so much for this opportunity to introduce CVCheck to your candidates and clients. I assume most of them are like us 18 months ago and have never heard of CVCheck. The company, originating in Perth, has been operating since 2004, and provides a highly advanced online screening and verification solution.

Corporates can implement our solution in their business within minutes and can start accessing over 500 individual checks and verifications across more than 70 countries. Whether they need this information for pre-employment checks, ‘fit & proper’ checks, client site requirements, licensing requirements, or for some other reason, with our solution they can choose individual checks or create custom packages to meet their requirements. Corporates can track their orders through the solution, and results are delivered and stored on their secure dashboard in line with privacy legislation.

Individuals as well can employ our solution to secure personal information, and their results are also stored for their future reference via our Individual Solution. They can share their results via a secure link which can be shared on their resume, and they will receive an email or text message every time their information is viewed.

How do you think CVCheck is different from your competitors?

Where do I start … There’s a lot to like about our solution and I truly believe over the coming years our solution will prove far superior to our competition. For Corporates and SMEs our solution can be implemented for FREE; there are no lock-in contracts; there are no minimum orders; all support is free, and we do not audit your business. We have one of the largest IT development teams in our industry. We are looking to the future to ensure our solution remains simple to use and provides the fastest results at a competitive price, whilst delivering an excellent customer experience. With this in mind we already offer greater order flexibility, access to more checks and locations, better sharing and storing technology, and a more advanced platform.

What type of clientele do you target for CVCheck in Queensland and NSW?

With no barriers to entry, CVCheck can be adopted by any business no matter what its size or usage, and we see many clients signing up online weekly of their own accord. However, I am more heavily focused on chasing down the bigger clients across these territories. I work very closely with government departments, local councils, associations and corporates across the following key industries: aged care, financial services, professional services, mining services, construction, oil and gas, recruitment, facilities management, retail, franchise, real estate, not for profits, education, sports, transportation. It provides me plenty of opportunities and keeps me fairly busy.

How do you feel CVCheck can benefit SMEs or even larger organisations?

With many other technology providers there is a range of barriers to entry, including: establishment fees, implementation costs, annual licensing fees, minimum IT requirements, lock-in contracts and minimum orders. CVCheck removed all these barriers to ensure that the SME can have the same opportunity as the large Corporate. The single person operator might come to us for a National Police Check to get them on a site, whereas some of our Credit Union clients have established custom packages for each role for their pre-screening process. They then have other ‘fit & proper’ packages to help with their responsible manager and board member checks. With our self-service solution, you decide how you utilize our solution but we ensure the results are delivered securely and fast with minimal effort.

What are you hoping to accomplish, and what will be your role in plans for the company moving forward across Qld and NSW?

CVCheck has some highly ambitious goals over the coming years and I want to support these and ensure they are achieved. Although, every day my number one priority is to ensure that more clients are aware of CVCheck and can avoid the poor outcomes I hear about daily. My clients regularly share stories about fraud that cost them thousands or millions, or resume fraud, or qualification fraud, or the staff member who crashed the company car and was unlicensed. I am focused on protecting employers, providing them with screening advice and recommendations, and ensuring that they become confident users of our simple solution.

How have you found the change from recruitment to working with CVCheck?

I loved my 10 years in the recruitment industry. I learnt so much. I had the opportunity to assist so many companies, and provide many individual career opportunities rather than just jobs. It’s a tough industry that certainly teaches you resilience, and I sometimes found it challenging to deliver what you wanted to your clients and candidates, due to time pressures. From the outset recruitment seems pretty simple but there are a lot of things that drain the minutes from your day. I don’t know any other industry where you have to: search or advertise for your product, interview your product, screen your product, manage your product, return calls and email from your product, etc., and then conduct all your client sales activities.

I found the transition into this role really very easy and have been able to leverage my experience, knowledge, and contacts incredibly well. Many of my existing clients and colleagues are now taking advantage of CVCheck as they understand how important pre-employment screening is to ensure great recruitment outcomes. They were not aware that it could be so easy, efficient and cost effective.

We discussed your passion for cycling what do you love about it?

I took up cycling about 11 years ago after injuring my knee and giving up competitive hockey. Like most people, I bought a second hand bike and was wary of wearing the lycra but this changed and I have since spent thousands on bikes. I started racing about three years ago and now compete in the Queensland Team Road Series, State events, and weekly at various club events. For me cycling ticks so many boxes and is such a great way to unwind: good health, an opportunity to get competitive, great social interaction, a sense of achievement, a sense of contribution, a good laugh, and a place to waste my hard earned cash!
